Galaxy Studios Select RME DMC-842 For Neumann Digital Mic Control

14th August 2014 4:43 pm

RME DMC-842 at Galaxy StudiosGalaxy Studios is considered one of the best recording, mastering and post-production facilities in Europe. Situated in the village of Mol, just 85km north of Brussels, Belgium, it is also home to the highly acclaimed Auro 3D technology, which we featured in a film with Sonodyne at SAE Brussels recently. Noted for their creativity in film and music, Galaxy Studios have many film credits including “White Queen” and  “The Adventurer: The Curse Of The Midas Box” with Michael Sheen, Lena Heady and Sam Neill.

One of their latest projects “1418 De Musical” recorded in March 2014, required their two main live areas and two control rooms to house the 70-piece deFilharmonie, Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra and a “large number” of singers. As you would expect on such a demanding project, the 3 day session required some major technical and logistical preparation. And to help capture the specific character that was required, they turned to RME and Sennheiser / Neumann to create a simultaneous digital and analogue microphone system.

A NEVE 88D console was used for all of the analogue mics, while 8 RME DMC-842 Digital Mic Controllers (equipped with RME I64 MADI Cards) where used to control the 76 Neumann digital mics. The DMC-842 M’s converted the microphones AES42 signals to MADI, and then delivered combined MADI streams to ProTools for recording. An API console was then used to handle the monitoring requirements.

The RME DMC-842 is an 8-channel AES42 converter and a controller for digital microphones. This unique device allows connection and control of up to 8 digital microphones and will convert to ADAT, AES/EBU, analogue and MADI (optional). As well as the the inputs fully AES/EBU (AES3) compatible, 8 individually switchable hi-end sample rate converters (SRC) offer a flexible clocking and further usage options.

Released on April 20th, 14-18 De Musical is available on iTunes
