The Pop Audio Pop Filter has just received another glowing review, this time from MusicTech. Click here to read the full review.
You'd be forgiven for thinking that there's not much to the pop filter (or pop shield as it's often called). Just strap a pair of tights over a coat hanger and you're done right?
Well, despite the simplicity of the pop filter, a surprisingly common complaint we hear from studio engineers is of poorly designed pop shields causing unnecessary frustrations during a recording session. Problems include weak clamps that won’t stay locked to the microphone stand, arms that move and droop after having been carefully positioned, a loss or lack of flexibility in the arm etc.
In fact for such as simple part of the recording puzzle, pop shields can suffer from a variety of problems, all of which amounts to at best an irritation, and at worst a serious disruption to recording, breaking the flow of the session and looking pretty unprofessional in the eyes of a client.
Enter the Pop Audio Pop Filter. Designed by two professional sound engineers who’d experienced the above problems first hand, the pair decided to use their experience to create their own, solving the problems once and for all. Featuring a unique ball and joint arm system, bayonet attachment point, a strong quick release clamp, plus a range of detachable filters to suit any recording situation, Pop Audio's Pop Filter has been specifically designed to withstand the rigours of daily studio usage for years to come.
“Quite simply the best pop filter we’ve ever seen.”
Since making their pop shield available to the public earlier this year critical reception has been extremely positive, with Audio Media International, Sound On Sound and now MusicTech all in agreement that the guys at Pop Audio have set a new standard for professional pop filters with their intelligent and unique design.
Pop Audio's Pop Filter is available in two models; the Studio Edition (left) ships with three types of filters, whilst the Classic Edition (right) includes the Fabric Filter
– the other filter types can be purchased separately if required.
In his review for MusicTech, Mike Hillier writes, “the Pop Audio Pop Filter is so simple and so effective, that it’s hard to even consider an alternative. If you ever intend to record vocals, this is something you’re going to want to add to your kit list immediately." He also goes on to describe it as "quite simply the best pop filter we've ever seen".
It's not just sound engineers and producers recording vocals who can benefit from using a quality pop filter however. Youtubers, vloggers and animators; voice-over artists who record audio books, dialogue and ADR; and even sound designers and foley artists; whatever you're recording, you'll find the Pop Audio Pop Filter to be a highly useful tool to have in your studio arsenal. Adding one to your recording chain not only improves the quality of your recordings, but also helps to protect your microphones from damage as well.
