Lauten Audio Series Black Microphones – Example Videos
California-based Lauten Audio started out by creating a range of distinctive, high-end studio microphones aimed squarely at professional recording studios. With their premium Signature Series receiving a warm reception in pro audio circles, Lauten mics have since made their way into the hands of top professionals including David Crosy, Fab Dupont, Bootsy Collins, and 7-time Grammy winner Darrell Thorp.
Whilst the Signature Series are truly stunning microphones of unquestionable quality, the reality is that they may be outside the budget of many musicians and engineers. Taking this onboard, Lauten decided recently to extend their expertise to a wider audience by producing a set of more affordable microphones. The result is the Series Black, a choice of versatile condenser microphones that make up Lauten's most affordable range to date. However, just because these mics are considerably cheaper than Lauten’s flagship Signature Series, don’t be fooled into thinking that they’re not up to scratch. On the contrary, the Series Black are ideal as versatile studio mics for both professional and project studios alike, and sit proudly alongside the more expensive models.

Lauten Audio LA-320 Examples
The LA-320 is a large diaphragm vacuum tube condenser. Especially nice on vocals, the sound has been described as natural and present, whilst imparting a subtle warmth from the tube. As you'll see from the video however, the LA-320 is equally at home on a wide range of sources, whether you use it for piano, bass, percussion, vocals, harp, a full drum kit, or more unusual instruments like the Vietnamese Dan Bau. Whatever you decide to record, you can be confident the the LA-320 will give you great results.
The LA-320 also features high and low-cut filters for tailoring your sound. The low-cut can be used to remove any low rumble or muddiness from your recordings, or to counter the proximity effect when close-miking. At the same time, if your instrument is overly bright, you can use the high-cut filter to shelve off some of the treble. The LA-320 also comes complete with a shock-mount, 5-pin tube mic cable, custom dedicated power supply and a metal storage case.

Lauten Audio LA-220 Examples
Lauten’s LA-220 is another mic with a wide range of capabilities, as demonstrated in this video. It's a large cardioid, solid-state FET condenser with a clean, accurate and detailed sound. Like the LA-320, the LA-220 is fantastic for recording vocals, whilst proving equally impressive on acoustic and amplified instruments too. If you're looking to give your recordings a crisp and modern flavour without breaking the bank, the LA-220 won't disappoint.
Like the LA-320, the LA-220 also features two independent filters (high and low cut) for shaping your sounds, whether you need to remove background noise, or tame an overly bright room.

Lauten Audio LA-120 Examples
The LA-120s are sold as a matched pair making them ideal for use as drum overheads, or for employing stereo recording techniques such as X/Y or ORTF. They can also be used individually of course, operating extremely well on a wide range of instruments. As showcased in this video, the LA-120 has a neutral and natural sound that stays true to the source they capture.
Like their large-diaphragm siblings, the LA-120s also feature high and low-cut filters, with polar patterns that can be switched between cardioid and omni via switchable capsules. If you're looking for a pair of small diaphragm condensers at an affordable price, you won't find much better than a set of Lauten Audio LA-120s.
