RME Audio’s Marc Shettke shows us round the new RME 12Mic at NAMM 2020
One of five new products launched at NAMM 2020, the 12Mic is RME’s first professional microphone preamp designed for use in audio networking.
Featuring 12 x state-of-the-art, remote controllable microphone preamps (directly accessible from the front panel), the 12Mic offers a no-compromise, high-end audio capture solution with MADI and AVB networking capabilities.
In this video shot at the RME stand at NAMM 2020, RME Developer Marc Schettke gives us a quick overview of this next generation audio device, which sets a precedent for things to come from RME over the next decade.

RME 12Mic – 12-Channel Digitally Controlled Microphone Preamplifier
The RME 12Mic is designed for professional audio engineers looking to expand their recording options with a high-end, compact and future-proof solution. The conversion quality surpasses RME’s previous OctaMic II and OctaMic XTC preamps (extremely popular in classical recording and no slouches in their own right!), and continues the RME sonic philosophy – clean, transparent and highly detailed audio.
The preamps feature 75 dB of gain range, with an astonishing 121.2 dB(A) SNR for all channels on the A-D conversion. Paired with any of RME’s Fireface Series interfaces, the 12Mic will make for a formidable preamp for professional-level recording whatever the material.
And with the inclusion of AVB, MADI and ADAT connections, the 12Mic is ready for use in AVB-based audio networks both large and small-scale, as well as more traditional audio setups.
The RME 12Mic is a 12-Channel, remote-controllable microphone preamp with ADAT outputs,
dual/redundant MADI and AVB I/O, extensive front panel controls, and redundant power supplies.
The newly designed front panel display offers a smoother and more straight-forward user experience than many previous RME devices. Phantom power can be switched on and off for all channels incredibly quickly, and all signals can be quickly monitored via the onboard headphone output. What’s more, the newly designed broswer-based software controller allows for quick and easy routing and control over all AVB signals.
The RME 12Mic Pro will have an RRP of £2,399.00 and is expected to begin shipping late March 2020.
