Iconic London recording studio picks up the "Studio of the Year" award at this year's Music Producer Guild Awards
On 1st March 2018, several members of the RME / Synthax Audio UK team headed to the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, London for the Music Producers Guild Awards. Hosted this year by BBC Radio 6 breakfast show presenter Shaun Keaveny, the annual MPG Awards acknowledges the outstanding achievements of professionals throughout the UK music industry, with categories for recording, production, engineering, mastering and A&R.
The shortlist included producers and engineers who've worked with some of the most successful and critically acclaimed artists of the last twelve months, including London Grammar, The xx, Kasabian, Frank Ocean, Slaves, and Stormzy, who was also in attendance on the night.
Long-time RME user Imogen Heap picked up the Inspiration Award in recognition of her continued efforts in innovation, and her status as a role model to many other musicians – her organisation Mycelia explores how new technologies (such as blockchain) can be used to ensure royalties are paid and distributed fairly to all recording musicians and artists.
MPG Awards – Studio of the Year
RME sponsored the “Studio of the Year” category, which was awarded to "the best UK commercial studio which exists primarily as a rental facility for the recording and/or mixing of music." This was a hotly contested category, with London's Abbey Road Studios, RAK Studios and Strongroom Studios all nominated for their consistently excellent facilities and musical output.
The winner was announced by Martin Warr (RME UK Distributor & Synthax Audio UK MD), who opened the envelope to reveal the evergreen Abbey Road Studios as this year's winner. Abbey Road Studios' MD Isabel Garvey accepted the award, which was presented to her by Thom Sonny Green and Gus Unger-Hamilton of indie rockers Alt-J.
Big congratulations to all of the winners at this year's awards. We'd also like to thank the MPG for inviting us to sponsor the award, and for the important contribution the organisation continues to make to the UK music industry.
