Calrec Brio 36 Medley: Calrec’s biggest tiny console just got bigger.
The already impressive connectivity of the Brio 36 console is further enhanced in the Brio 36 Medley bundle. The Medley includes the incredible Brio 36 console, 96 input channel upgrade, a Calrec Hydra2 Network Card, Dante I/O or MADI I/O expansion card and a Br.IO external I/O box.
With standard or slim trims at no extra cost, Calrec’s Brio 36 console is ready to go straight out of the box and is packed with broadcast features.
In fact with comprehensive free training, market-leading technical support and Calrec’s renowned reliability, Brio is designed to meet your broadcast production needs for years to come. Only now, even more so.
Brio36 – Powerful and Compact Digital Broadcast Audio Console
As the market calls for more and more audio mixes to support online content, smaller consoles that possess pure live broadcast features are increasingly desirable. Products in this sector have traditionally had basic capabilities and are not ideally suited to broadcast environments.
Brio is a mixing console solely focused on the needs of broadcasters. With a comprehensive broadcast feature list, built-in I/O connectivity and extensive control functionality in a compact form factor, the Calrec Brio 36 is the perfect workhorse for a variety of broadcast sound scenarios.
With analogue I/O, digital I/O and GPIO built into the Brio 36, the console is extremely portable and quick to install. Even with its diminuitive size – measuring only 892mm wide – the Brio is designed to be as uncluttered as possible. Its 36 fader layout is clear and simple to operate, whilst the 15.6” touch screen provides access to a wider range of in-depth parameters. Colour-coded, illuminating rotary encoders give quick and precise control over functions displayed on the touchscreen.
The Brio 36’s compact size can be further reduced thanks to a “Slim Trim” option. This cuts the console’s width from 892mm down to only 830mm, perfect for situations where space is at a minimum.
Fully loaded with dynamics and delay on every path, a huge internal router and multiple monitor outputs, Brio is a plug-and-play broadcast console with 96 DSP processing paths, meaning there is never any DSP sharing. It slots into any broadcast workflow and is easy to drive and learn. What’s more, the Brio 36 features three expansion slots to further increase the on-board I/O.
Even with all its processing power and I/O, the Brio is incredibly simple to use. After mixing Captain Tom Moore’s 100th birthday celebrations for a live broadcast, sound engineer Paul Cutler was amazed with the usability of the Brio straight out of the box.
“I had never used a Brio before, but it was so intuitive that I took delivery, installed, set it up and mixed the broadcast in a matter of hours. It is amazing to use; so simple I was adding auxes on the fly and had no concern about adding any facilities. Plenty of ins and outs, huge capacity and a user interface that’s beautifully laid out and a joy to use.”

Hydra2 Connectivity: Sophisticated Networking
Included in the Brio 36 Medley bundle is a Hydra2 Network Card, bringing Calrec’s Hydra2 networking capabilities to the Brio 36. The Network Card enables further I/O, like the Br.IO expansion unit, to connect to the console via Calrec’s sophisticated Hydra2 network protocol.
The Hydra2 Module also enables you to incorporate any future formats that may emerge into your system, and allows the console to sit on multiple networks simultaneously if desired.
Dante I/O or MADI I/O as Standard with Brio Medley
With its three I/O expansion ports, it is possible to build on the impressive connectivity of the Brio 36. Included in the Brio Medley bundle is a Dante or MADI I/O expansion card, upgrading the channel count of the Brio straight out of the box.
The Dante I/O expansion offers 64 channels of Audinate’s Dante audio networking protocol for integration into an existing Dante network, whilst the MADI I/O card features coaxial connectivity via BNC or optical MADI when paired with an SFP module.
Br.IO: Analogue and Digital I/O Expansion
Whilst the Brio36 console features comprehensive built-in I/O, some situations may require further connectivity or access to I/O from a different location to the console.
Offering an easy way to expand the Brio’s analogue and digital connectivity, the Br.IO is Calrec’s official I/O expansion option for the Brio Duet – and comes included as part of the Brio Medley bundle – with 24 Mic/Line inputs and 16 analogue outputs doubling the Brio36’s on-board I/O.
The Br.IO can be located remotely thanks to Hydra2 connectivity, a high-speed, fully redundant network solution.

Calrec Brio 36 Duet
Alongside the enhanced package offered by the Brio Medley bundle, Calrec have also recently launched the Brio 36 Duet. The Brio Duet package takes the 36-channel Brio console and adds a 96 channel upgrade as standard, as well as Hydra2 connectivity via the included Calrec Hydra2 Network Card.
As the industry demands more and more from increasingly tighter budgets, there has been a rise in the demand for smaller production units to handle larger productions. In response to this need, both the Calrec Brio Duet and Medley consoles both include Calrec’s 96 channel upgrade as standard, enabling larger channel counts from an incredibly compact and portable console.
