We chat to Synth-pop legend Howard Jones and Producer Robbie Bronnimann, both of whom recently added Dynaudio Core Series monitors to their respective studios.

Howard Jones is a British musician, singer, and songwriter who first rose to prominence in the 1980s. Scoring ten top 40 UK singles, his hit list includes songs such as Like to Get to Know You Well, What Is Love?, New Song and Things Can Only Get Better.

His debut 1984 album Human’s Lib topped the UK Albums Chart, helping him rise to international acclaim and booking a performance at the legendary Live Aid 1985 concert. Howard has sold over 8 million albums worldwide and continues to tour each year, performing to hundreds of thousands of fans around the globe.

Often linked to the “Second British Invasion”, Jones‘ style is typically described as Synth-pop and New Wave, and he’s toured alongside other heavyweights including Eurythmics, Culture Club, Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, The Human League and OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark).

We spoke to Howard and Producer Robbie Bronnimann about their love for Dynaudio studio monitors, and making the decision to upgrade to the Dynaudio Core Series.

Describing himself as a “music artist, songwriter, record maker”, Howard’s studio is based around a Mac Studio and features “loads of synths old and new, and a Steinway Spirio piano”.

When it comes to production and engineering Robbie Bronnimann is a long-time collaborator, along with taking care of sequencing on tour with Howard.

“I’m a producer, remixer, film scorer, artist and live keyboardist,” says Robbie by way of introduction.

“As a producer and remixer I have produced extensively for Howard Jones, as well as other artists like Nik Kershaw, Midge Ure, Nikki Minaj, Chicane and Platipus.

“As a film Scorer I have scored about 9 movies with my scoring partner Andy Hunter° including Sony’s To Write Love On Her Arms.”

Robbie is also on a Mac Studio: “Fully maxed out running Logic X with many, many software instruments & effects companies such as Universal Audio, Native Instruments, Arturia, Soundtoys,” he says.

“I have various hardware synths and effects, with my current love affair being with the Freqport FP1 real valve system that runs over USB-C. Monitor-wise I have the beautiful Dynaudio Core 7s.”

Howard and Robbie have been creating music that moves and inspires for many years now. Having the right tools is of course essential, and the Dynaudio Core Series have increasingly become a go-to for world-class audio engineers.

“Love my Dynaudio Core 7s,” says Howard, who also chose Dynaudio’s 7″ 2-way nearfields for his studio. “I’ve had various Dynaudio speakers in my setup for three decades,” he continues. “The last ones were the BM12As, which helped me make so many new tracks. Dynaudio speakers have given my ears a daily treat for 30 years.”

“The stereo field and fidelity along with the warm solid sound makes it a joy every time I fire them up!!!!”

Music producer Robbie Bronnimann in his recording studioSimilar to Howard, Robbie Bronnimann’s choice of Dynaudio is also one of progression. Having recorded and mixed on Dynaudios for many years, Robbie knew he had found a brand that understood the importance of sound quality.

“For many years I used the original Dynaudio BM6As that I still think sound amazing,” Robbie says. “After that I progressed to a full 5.1 AIR 6 System with the AIRBASE 12 sub, which I used for about 15 years for all my mixing in stereo and 5.1.”

Having formed the backbone of his mixing processing for so long, we finished up by asking Robbie why keeps coming back to Dynaudios?

“They have never fatigued me, and I have come to rely on the absolute smoothness at all levels they provide, and the remarkable musical and accurate bass end,” he says. “I also love that I can have the Cores’s on my system digitally.”

“The stereo field and fidelity along with the warm solid sound makes it a joy every time I fire them up!!!!”

Our thanks to Howard Jones and Robbie Bronnimann!
